May Day on the Docks

Join us at the Museum of London Docklands to celebrate May Day in traditional style. Choose from a range of craft, storytelling and object handling activities. Help to make a Jack in the Green, listen to stories and take part in our procession. From ages 3+ 

Mon 7 May, 11.30am – 12.30pm & 1.30-2.30pm

Help us make a 'Jack in the Green', a traditional May Day custom. Join in the procession and take home a leaf for good luck. 4+ 

Mon 7 May, 12-2pm
Join our archaeologists to handle some objects connected with English folklore and superstition. 5+ 

Mon 7 May, 12.30-1pm, 2.30-3pm & 3.30-4pm
Join us to hear the legend of Elizabeth Montagu whose young son was allegedly kidnapped for his fine clothes. Years later, she found him working as a chimney sweep and every May Day after that held a feast for all the young chimney sweeps of London. 5+

Join the Belles of London City for this display of traditional morris dancing. 2+

Join us to celebrate May Day with a procession involving music, dancing and much more. 2+
