Wagner composed the Siegfried Idyll as a birthday present to his second wife, Cosima, after the birth of their son Siegfried in 1869, a fitting and romantic introduction to LMP’s Valentine’s Day concert.
Sibelius’ luminous orchestral suite depicts a devastating, romantic story of forbidden love, originally written as incidental music for a play by the Belgian playwright Maeterlinck. Simon Callow has written, and will perform*, a script linking the music to the story.
The LMP is delighted to welcome back acclaimed international conductor and violinist Joseph Swenson to perform Brahms’ virtuosic masterpiece, the second of three concerti featuring in the LMP’s season-long celebration of the violin.
*Simon Callow’s appearance is subject to availability
