Monday saw the premiere of Digital Theatre's production of Merrily We Roll Along at Cineworld Haymarket. Director Maria Friedman and the full cast and production team were joined by more than 300 guests for the sneak preview of the film which is coming to cinemas across the UK and Europe from today, Thurday 24 October.

Cast members including lead trio Mark Umbers, Jenna Russell and Damien Humbley, were joined by celebrity guests Stephen Mangan, Anthony Andrews and Douglas Hodge among many others.

Merrily We Roll Along is the first production in Digital Theatre's West End Theatre Series and will play in over 1000 cinemas worldwide. The film was captured and edited from three separate productions filmed over two days. The opportunity to gauge performers' work at closer range has already been hailed by critics as welcome accompaniment to the experience of seeing productions live, as well as a great opportunity to spread musical theatre to a wider audience.

Merrily We Roll Along was penned by musical theatre legend Stephen Sondheim. Following a sell-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, Maria Friedman's production transferred to the West End's Harold Pinter Theatre, where it claimed more five star reviews than any other West End Musical in history and won the 2012 Critics' Circle Award for Best Musical.

Noël Coward's Private Lives has been announced as the next production to reach the cinema through the West End Theatre Series, with the UK release expected on February 6th, 2014.
